 The Charleston River Port 10K

  

A USATF certified and sanctioned race, (Certification # SC19041DW) the Charleston River Port 10K is open to all runners to compete, fitness enthusiasts and anyone wanting to just have fun. In the spirit of fun competition and to promote good health and physical development, the River Port 10K race is open to athletes of all abilities. 

A coastal racecourse that is easily underestimate because of its charm, the flowing Charleston River Port 10K course will lull you into a false sense of serenity.

With terrain features that draw the admiration of the most experienced competitor, this river front route includes all the geographical challenges of a course on the coast. 

Combining open river views with Spanish moss laden shady oaks that wave gently in the coastal breeze, runners will enjoy the historical beauty and charm of the Charleston river port community as they enjoy the fun and competition that symbolizes the spirit of the South Carolina Military Appreciation Festival. 

Good Luck! The Charleston River Port 10K is an annual world class race designed for speed, with long open stretches throughout the front and back half of the course. It will quickly separate the elite, world class level runners and those who seek records, from those who just want to experience a great course and friendly competition that will symbolize the spirit of the South Carolina Military Appreciation Festival.

Running The Course

Saturday October 16, 2021


The Charleston River Port 10 Race Route 

Starting Line: Approximately 100 feet beyond parking lot exit on Turnbull/Everglades Avenue, with the line set at the south point of the intersection of Everglades Avenue and Navy Way. 

  • Port Area From River Front Park: Continue on W. Hobson Ave from park to intersection of McMillan Ave.
  • Take right McMillan Ave. and the pace picks up, one of the longest stretches in the race, go to the intersection of Spruill Ave. then turn right onto Spruill Ave.  

- Mile 1 - Aide station ONLY: On right side of course, 50 yards from the corner. 

- Mile 2 - Hydration/Aide station: North on Spruill Ave., on the right side, at the intersection of Spruill and Bexley St.


North Charleston

From Navy port and River Front Park: 

  • Continue on Spruill Ave. to the intersection of Buist Ave., turn left on Buist Ave, then an immediate left on to Rugheimer Ave. 
  • Rugheimer Ave. along Quarterman Park, then right on South Blvd.
  • Turning right on Old Park Rd, and go around the end of Quarterman Park to the next intersection.
  • Turn left on Buist Ave to head up the hill to the first left on Park Place S. fork leading to Park Circle.


Park Circle (From Spruill Ave. proceeding to half way point) 

  • From Buist Ave, go left on Park Pl. S and continue across S. Rhett Ave. moving up to Durant Ave.
  • Cross Durant Ave. taking right on to Park Pl. W. 
  • Continue on Park Pl W., across E. Montague Ave., and on up to intersection of Buist Ave.
  • Take right at the fork on to Park Pl. N, and proceed through intersection of N. Rhett Ave.
  • Crossing over Durant Ave., take right on to Park Pl. E, proceed to E. Montague Ave. turn left.

Mile #3: Water/Aid Station at corner of Park Pl. S. and Durant Ave, on the park side

 

North Charleston  

  • Turn left on E. Montague Ave. race past the N. Charleston High School, the course proceeds over the Rail tracks and on to the intersection of Virginia Ave.
  • Turning right on Virginia Ave, the course heads back to Riverfront Park and to the intersection of Virginia Ave. and Noisette Blvd.
  • Turn left on to Noisette Blvd. off Virginia Ave, the course veers left to Ave B N. off Noisette Blvd. 
  • Course continues on Ave B N. to 2nd St. N., where the course turns left.

Mile #4: Water/Aid Station on E. Montague Ave., 50 yards before corner of Virginia Ave.


Port Industrial Complex 

  • On 2nd St. N. at Old Charleston Forge, it follows the scenic view of Noisette creek.
  • Turn left at the intersection of Noisette Blvd. to go over the bridge, heading east back toward Riverfront Park.
  • Cross over Turnbull Ave and continue on Noisette Blvd to McMillan Ave.
  • Turn left on to McMillan Ave.

Mile #5: Water/Aid Station is on Noisette Blvd. 100 yards across bridge toward park


Riverfront Park  

  • On McMillan Ave., within 50 yards, turn left on back on to N. Hobson Ave. 
  • Continue on N. Hobson Ave., back to Riverfront Park, and take the right at Shipbuilding Way (the parking area will be to the left side.)
  • Follow Shipbuilding Way into the intersection of Navy Way, and veer to the left on to Navy Way.
  • Continue on around Navy Way to where it forks into Everglades Ave. continue right going around the curve toward the park parking area for the Naval Base Memorial.
  • Following the curve past the scenic Riverfront park area and Quarters K, the finish line is approximately 180 yards past the main entrance leading into the Greater Charleston Naval Base Memorial. 

Mile #6: The Final Water/Aid Station is at the fork of Navy Way and Everglades Ave.


FINISH LINE 

Charleston Riverfront Park

Finish Line: In Riverfront Park on the park exit road, It may vary due to participants in wheel chair and hand propelled cycle for disabled participants and Athletes for All race athletes, but race finish line marker will be same as stating line.
